Friend: how many corners do you have in your heart?
Me: plenty, one for mum, one for dad, friends, of course you are not excluded because you’re my bestie
Friend: haha, any for your secret sweetheart?
Me: uhm… yes
Friend: who who?
Me: well I dunno babe
Him: is that the one on the magazine?
Me: what magazine?
Him: The most recent story that you wrote
Me: haha just some fictitous character, not real
Friend: haha, keep it simple stupid, you don’t need to love someone to be able to compose a love story
Him: Really, didn’t know that. But it was like your real emotion
Me: I’m a professional writer man, imagination is all I need
Friend: ok next time if you have any concern, go and ask her okay? Don’t work everything out yourself. Why do you always put your mind in the wrong place? Don’t unneccessarily complicate things while something else needs you to figure it out haha

Winter breeze was just an illusion. And nothing else except the warmth from his back was real

He didn’t answer my question for some stupid reason. Silence took over us both.

But then my yahoo was no longer in the iddle mood as soon as he got home, demanding some few sweet lines saying good night

What sort of highschool friendship is this, exactly?

I was just furious about the plagiarised part that I accidentally discovered in the first assignment, and for the second time she emailed me the last minute work again. Too tired to fix up everything that late night, so I let it slide, cursing that I was so stupid for agreeing to be in the same group with her in the first place.

And now it turned out that my HD work and the entire 3 day efforts have gone to waste.

Bloody hell.

Everything is a mess.

All of a sudden my heart skipped a beat when reading my younger cousin’s Facebook note. It was his first time away from home for university, with all the mixed feelings of an 18-year-old soft heart. When we were young, Saigon (or the prestigious name “city” as we usually called it) was always a paradise – the place but nowhere else that could make us all thrilled and excited nights before leaving town, and progressively overwhelmed as we crossed the ferry (as it used to be back then) and the bridge, coming closer to the city we loved, the place where we didn’t hesitate to leave our hearts with as school holiday was approaching its last days.

As he goes through ups and downs, Saigon will soon become his second home, second soul and second breath. Just like the love for Sydney being developed and inseparably blended with the maturity in me. Family and friends back in Vietnam are my backbone, yet I still have with me a non-biological (grand)mother and mates looking forward to my come back every year. Oh and forget to say, also a Staffie incredibly impatient waiting for his banana  every morning :)

First time away from home could be harsh, but second time, then third time, and many-times will make it no more than a repeating cycle. I feel butterfly in my stomach and impatient as the snail plane makes its way to the landing, adjust myself with the “temperature-shock” as I get out of the plane for the check-out, and have my first day at home extended by 4 hours. As it comes with the packing again, left is the mysterious night sky and lightful city which will soon be replaced with the uniquely unbearable air pressure of the take-off. And waiting to greet me in the next morning is a half-familiar, half-alien landmark surrounded by a deep coastline.

It is hard and takes time to adjust. But once we are over it, it’ll be more like a recurring pain which comes to happen every now and then.

And we’ll be all fine in the end :)
